What is a bail bond?

A bail bond acts as a three-party contract between the court, the defendant, and the surety. It allows the defendant to be released during the pendency of criminal charges. The surety is the party that assumes the financial risk of guaranteeing the defendant’s appearance in court. But, the surety is not a single party; instead, it is a joint party consisting of the bail agent (representing a surety company) and the defendant’s co-signer(s).

What is the procedure for bailing someone out of jail?

Once you call our bail bond agency, we will ask a series of questions to assess the situation. Upon approval, you will be asked to complete a bail bond application. After payment has been received, our licensed bail bond agent will post the bond on behalf of the defendant.

How long is the bail bond good for?

The bail bond is valid as long as the court case is in pending status. The bail bond will remain valid as long as all conditions are met.

How much does a bail bond (surety bond) cost?

In Ohio, the bail premium, or fee, is typically 10% of the full bail amount. For example, if the bail amount is $10,000, the premium charged is $1,000.

Who is liable for the bail bond?

The indemnitor (co-signer) is financially liable for the bond. The indemnitor’s liability is limited to the full face value of the bail bond.

What should I know before I contact a bail agent?

There is certain information a bail agent will need in order to help you:

Where is the person in custody? Make sure that you ask the person where they are located, including city, state, and the name of the jail.

Please provide the full name and booking number of the person in jail. The bail agent will need this information in order to contact the jail. The bail agent can get the booking number for you if you forgot or if it was not available.

How much is the bail?

The bail agent will get this information when they contact the jail if you do not have it. With the bail amount, the bail bondsman can tell you the amount it will cost to post the bond. The bail bondsman will also inform you of the requirements to get the person out of jail. It’s okay if you don’t have or are not sure of some of the above information. We are still happy to help you, just give us a call!
